The Verdict

This company is not worth the risk. We analyzed nearly a hundred reviews and found a troubling split: some homeowners rave about smooth installs and attentive service from a sales rep named David, while others describe deceptive sales tactics, botched installations, and vanishing support once the panels go live. One homeowner paid $23,000 but still carries a significant electric bill because the company couldn't track production or explain why the system underperformed. Another was left with panels on the roof for three years that were never turned on, the company seemingly out of business. We found 27 complaints about post-sale support, and 30 negative mentions of value, customers accusing the company of inflating costs mid-project or holding deposits hostage over fabricated cancellations. The workmanship score sits at 4.1, driven by 38 positive mentions, but 11 negatives include rodent-proofing that didn't work and insulation installed below California's minimum code. When things go wrong, reviews show the company goes silent or sends contractors who lack parts or authority to fix the problem.

If you're hoping to get what you pay for and rely on warranty support down the line, this installer's track record says you're gambling. Too many customers report underperforming systems, unresponsive follow-up, and broken promises to recommend them with confidence.

Reviews That Shaped Our Verdict

Aimee C.
YelpOct 15, 2016

Aimee C. paid $23,000 to NRG for a solar setup meant to erase her electric bill, but the outcome fell far short of that goal. In summer 2014 NRG put in eight panels for about $14,000 to “zero out” her LADWP charges; by 2015 she still depended on the utility for roughly half her power. NRG added five more panels the next summer for about $9,000, and by summer 2016 the extra modules hadn’t changed her bill — she remained about half reliant on LADWP. For two months she kept calling NRG looking for explanations and a production readout; after persistent follow-up she discovered the company didn’t know why the system underperformed, couldn’t track its output, and couldn’t interpret her LADWP bills — capabilities she expected as basic solar-company expertise. Frustrated, she is now seeking independent solar experts to diagnose the system and is considering small-claims court. The striking takeaway: after investing $23,000 and adding more panels, she still faces significant utility bills and a company that couldn’t provide clear answers.

Nonproft S.
YelpJan 9, 2019

Nonproft hired Green NRG for a home solar install expecting the system to match three years of past consumption and even produce a credit. They discovered instead that the salesperson, Sam, made a string of promises that never materialized — from how much the array would cover to the loan structure and even a cruise incentive — and that the company would remove panels if anything went wrong. When those assurances unraveled, follow-up contact only dug the hole deeper: Konstantin offered new explanations, Lia proved unreachable despite being listed as the contact, and manager Idan provided no useful help. A man named Kevin ultimately acknowledged there was little the company would do short of court. Meanwhile the panels ended up sited and wired differently than agreed; a later visit showed the system had been wired incorrectly and the reported production figures were wrong. The practical result: their electricity bills rose because Green Mountain charges about 10¢/kWh and the rooftop array failed to cover the household’s usage, and the homeowner ended up footing the repair and consequence costs. The one detail that sticks: promises about coverage and fixes collapsed into a discovery—

Ken P.
YelpApr 11, 2018

Ken P. pursued solar after a Costco sign-up in 2015, met with sales teams from two companies, and ended up choosing Green NRG for a rooftop system installed in mid-2015. The install itself appeared to go smoothly, but he discovered the project never performed as projected because Green NRG seemed unfamiliar with how his city’s utility handled credits and interconnection — he was left to contact the utility himself — and he was never shown how to monitor the system’s performance. In March 2018 the utility contacted him to say the system wasn’t working and he wasn’t receiving any benefit. He called Green NRG on March 20; a contractor came out and quickly identified the culprit as a recalled component. That was the first time he learned the part had been recalled, even though the contractor determined it immediately. The contractor said he would order a replacement, would deliver it to Ken’s home, and asked Ken to call when it arrived. Ken did call; the contractor expected to return in a couple days but became unreachable. Multiple messages to both the contractor and Ken’s Green NRG contact went unanswered. Now the replacement part sits in a delivery box at his house with no clear

What You Can Expect

Jim Hogan
SolarReviewsSep 5, 2019

Jim had a 17-panel solar system installed almost two years ago and discovered a persistent problem: two panels are producing only about one-third of the output of the other 15. He has followed up repeatedly—about once or twice a month—for more than a year, dealing with two different company representatives, but the low production on those two panels never improved. Adding to the frustration, the phone number listed on the company website, 1-888-589-4006, goes unanswered and doesn’t offer a way to leave a message. After nearly two years and steady monthly outreach, he still has two underperforming panels and no effective way to get the issue escalated.

James H.
YelpSep 5, 2019

James H. had a 17-panel rooftop system installed, and the installation itself went smoothly. He discovered two of the panels consistently produced about one-third less power than the other fifteen. For more than a year he chased a fix through three different employees, contacting them by phone, email and text, but the problem stayed unresolved. Recently he found the phone number on the company’s website rings unanswered. After that extended run of underperformance and silence from support, he doubts the company will honor its guarantees and warranties — the lasting image is a neatly installed array with two weak panels and no timely help.

Gini & Robbie
SolarReviewsMay 28, 2019

Gini and Robbie signed up with Green NRG in August 2017 for a rooftop solar installation, expecting the company’s promised 80–90% production. Soon after the panels went up they discovered output hovering around 50%, so their electric bill barely changed. They noticed one stretch of roof that gets noticeably more sun and were told at signup that panels would be relocated if needed. Over the next 18 months they sent photos, emailed, and called repeatedly asking for an on-site evaluation; each time Green NRG promised adjustments but nothing materialized. Frustrated, they feel they were misled and left without a practical way to get the system to perform as originally represented — after a year and a half the panels remain where they were installed and production is still roughly half of what was sold to them.
