The Verdict

This company doesn't deserve your trust. We analyzed over a hundred reviews and found a pattern of installation failures, unresponsive service, and door-to-door reps who misrepresented their utility affiliation. One homeowner spent $11,000 on a system installed incorrectly, then waited two years for callbacks that never came—the panels barely worked and the utility inspector confirmed poor workmanship. Another customer watched their inverter fail twice in three years, only to discover Greenspire wouldn't honor the warranty or return calls, forcing them to hire a different installer. We found 41 complaints about poor value and 68 about dishonest sales conduct, including reps who promised they were affiliated with local utilities, then ran hard credit checks without proper consent. The post-sale abandonment is the clearest signal: 31 reviewers reported being ghosted after installation, and project management scored just 2.3 out of 5. Even reviewers who praised the initial install often mentioned billing surprises or hidden fees years later. If a rep shows up claiming to offer a utility program, ask for a business card and their city solicitation license. Better yet, close the door and research installers who don't rely on deceptive tactics to win business.

If you're willing to gamble on whether your system will actually work a year from now, and you enjoy leaving voicemails that go unanswered, this might be your company. For everyone else, find an installer with a track record of post-sale accountability.

Reviews That Shaped Our Verdict

Chris N.
YelpJul 30, 2021

Three years ago Chris had Greenspire install a residential solar system on his home. Over that time he discovered the SolarEdge inverter failed twice. The first failure forced him to work directly with the manufacturer to get anything moving because Greenspire wouldn’t return calls; he kept calling and chasing them after verbal promises that never materialized. When the inverter failed a second time, Greenspire again didn’t answer or return calls, and ultimately refused to do the warranty work. Frustrated, he’s transferring service to a different installer so the inverter can be replaced — the lasting takeaway being an unresponsive installer that left him to handle warranty replacement through someone else.

Raul paid just over $11,000 for a solar installation on his Los Angeles home and ended up fighting the company for two years. He discovered the panels weren’t producing as expected — only about $300 in savings over those two years — and a DWP inspection told him the panels had been installed incorrectly. Repeated attempts to get service met with silence; after two years of unanswered messages he posted a harsh review on the company’s website four months ago and, almost immediately, someone finally called back. Craig Anderson and a project manager named Madeline both promised to investigate, add more panels, and make the system right, but the fixes never materialized. He found the company’s customer service unresponsive, gave him the runaround and sometimes hung up, and the finance company backing the projects told him it had received numerous similar complaints from other customers. Frustrated, he filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and plans to pursue legal action for fraud and bad faith. The detail that sticks: an $11,000 installation that failed a DWP inspection and produced only a few hundred dollars of savings while the installer repeatedly ignored requests to re

Dick answered a door-to-door pitch in Burbank for a free home energy and safety assessment that was framed as being connected to the local utility. He agreed to an inspection the next day, signed a form authorizing the company to check that his utility bills were current, and was told a report would be delivered in about a week. After the salesperson left, his wife urged him to look the company up; he found no online reviews for Greenspire Solutions and spotted a Greenspire Holding LLC formed in May 2013 in Secretary of State records, uncertain if it was the same entity. Shortly afterward his credit-monitoring service flagged a full-access pull of his credit file, even though the stated purpose had been only to verify account status with the City of Burbank. The rep had insisted both he and his wife be present when they returned to review recommendations and a plan; alarmed by the credit access, he canceled the inspection and the sharing of the report. He now suspects the business operates like many contractors who drum up leads with a marketing angle that implies a utility partnership, then steer homeowners toward repair contracts that leverage municipal or utility rebates. What You Can Expect

Bridget G.
YelpJan 31, 2022

Bridget G. signed up five years ago for a leased solar system from Greenspire Solar for her home. She loved the installation — crews were professional and the panels went up without problems — but the promised savings never materialized. She expected the solar payments and her Edison electric charges to balance out over each 12‑month cycle; instead she ended up paying her solar company plus continuing to send Edison about $500–$800 a year. On top of that, refinancing her mortgage triggered a nearly $500 fee to the solar company to re‑title the loan, and the company recently began charging a $5 monthly penalty unless she enrolls in automatic payments. The experience shifted from a smooth install to an ongoing stream of unexpected charges, and the detail that sticks with her is simple and specific: five years in, she still pays several hundred dollars a year to Edison and faces additional administrative fees that eat into any promised savings.

On a residential rooftop, Cathy M. ended up with panels installed by Greenspire on October 9, 2019 — but more than a year later, as of November 25, 2020, the system still wasn’t connected. She discovered the crew installed the array without obtaining city permits and never finished the interconnection process. Repeated calls went straight to voicemail and no one returned her messages. She assigned the company the lowest possible rating, felt even that was generous, and urges other homeowners to confirm their installer does not subcontract to Greenspire.
