The Verdict

Purelight handles the basics well but doesn't deliver the standout experience top installers provide. We analyzed thousands of customer reviews and found a company that gets panels on roofs efficiently, with crews that clean up after themselves and electricians who know what they're doing. One homeowner compared their experience to a solar install eight years prior and said Purelight "made it easy," crediting them for streamlining paperwork and removing old limitations. That ease shows up in the numbers: 2,525 reviews mention responsive post-sale support, and 2,059 cite solid project management. The trouble emerges when something goes wrong. We found 170 reviews describing poor communication after installation, missed callbacks, and unresolved utility approval delays stretching months. One reviewer waited nearly three months for activation because Purelight submitted the wrong address to the power company, with zero proactive updates. Another paid over $33,000 and discovered Purelight refused to remove panels for a hail-damaged roof replacement unless they got the roofing contract too. (The removal company then found seven panels damaged during the original install.) If you want a straightforward installation and don't anticipate needing much after the fact, Purelight will likely deliver. But if you value a company that stays engaged when problems arise, you may want to keep looking.

If you're willing to trade a premium price for attentive post-install service, look elsewhere. Purelight excels at getting systems online quickly, but their track record falters when customers need follow-up support or run into utility approval snags.

3 Stories That Stood Out

1. Joe Henner
Google | May 22, 2024 |

Joe Henner had Purelight Solar on his roof since May 2023; he loved Josh Smith’s sales pitch and the actual panel and electrical install, but the company’s office coordination repeatedly failed. Early in 2024 he referred Purelight to his daughter and son-in-law, who had just moved into a newly built home in southern Oregon and signed with Purelight a little over three months ago. The crews installed panels and wiring quickly, and the electrician left saying everything was ready pending a county inspection and PPL’s activation — that was more than two and a half months ago. Weeks passed with zero updates, so his son-in-law called Purelight and learned the utility panel supposedly needed a modification (a derater), which would require electricians and a planned PPL shutoff. Purelight offered no explanation for why the on-site electrician had declared the system ready or why nobody had called to notify them. When a date finally arrived for electricians and PPL, the couple rearranged daycare and work, waited for the crews, and nobody showed up. Purelight later said the derater wasn’t needed after all and only the county inspection and PPL activation remained — again, nobody had ph

2. Marty S.
Yelp | Apr 9, 2024 |

Marty S. hired Purelight Power to put solar panels on his 18-year-old roof and paid a total of $33,500 after an initial $500 earnest deposit (March 27, 2023), $16,500 in April to start, and $16,500 upon completion in June. During the sales process he was promised a thorough roof inspection and told most 20-year roofs last longer; he was also given a clear price for removal and reinstallation — $100 per panel each — if roof work became necessary. After a severe hailstorm in March 2023, his roof later showed extensive hail damage; his insurer’s inspector agreed, the U.S. Weather Service verified the storm, and nine nearby houses have had or are having replacement roofs. When he contacted Purelight about removing the panels, company representative Daniel Shipley refused to honor the earlier removal arrangement, then insisted Purelight would only take panels off if they secured the entire roofing contract — even though he already had a signed roofing contract and only needed the panels removed. A different crew removed the array and discovered one panel damaged from incorrect installation and pulled six more that were also damaged. Shipley blamed the damage on the other crew, and Purel

3. Deirdre Barker
Google | Jan 19, 2023 |

Deirdre Barker began unsure whether solar made sense for her ranch-style home, so she met with three reputable local companies to compare options. She chose Purelight after a meeting with Thomas and steady endorsements from friends who are developers and some who had already gone with them. From first contact through final hookup she experienced attentive sales support, a responsive office team that always answered questions and laid out next steps, and an installation crew that was so careful the roof looked unchanged once the panels were in place. The electricians, Tyler and Kyle, inspected the service panel and discovered upgrades the utility would require; Purelight not only handled the extra work but absorbed the full additional cost. Even more striking, the final price dropped by several thousand dollars after the team refined the scope to match her actual needs. Throughout the process she felt treated like Purelight’s only customer rather than a small job on a long list. The detail that stuck with her most: the company cut the original quote and paid for unforeseen electrical upgrades to secure approval, turning a cautious decision into a worry-free install she now refers to

What You Can Expect

01

1. Greg Ferr
Google | Jun 5, 2025 |

Greg Ferr's original 24-panel system worked fine, but 4½ years later a roof replacement turned the reinstallation into a drawn-out ordeal. He paid Purelight up front and the contract promised a 10-day turnaround; instead, a month passed before installers arrived—and they showed up without an electrician. After more waiting and repeated calls, an electrician finally came and the crew completed the hookup, but they didn't verify every panel. Greg discovered that eight of the 24 panels weren't producing, and he wound up paying two separate power-related charges (PP&L's and Purelight's) while still waiting for a full, proper connection. After he posted the review, Mikyla from Purelight contacted him, handled the issue with email and phone conversations, and negotiated an agreement to make him whole—and then some. What stuck with him most was that a promised 10-day fix stretched to over a month and left a third of his array offline, but a single rep, Mikyla, ultimately stepped in and resolved it.

2. Donna Van Dis
Google | May 19, 2025 |

Donna Van Dis put solar panels on her home in 2022 and added battery storage recently. The whole process felt smooth and professional from start to finish, with staff who were friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to reach. She handled her most recent interactions with Gabriella O., who proved fantastic—always quick to respond, patient in walking her through how the system works, and a clear point of contact for follow-up. The team made sure she understood the setup, answered questions immediately, and left the panel-plus-battery system integrated and functioning. The lasting impression is not just a working system but a reliable, responsive person at Pure Light to call if anything comes up.

3. Tawnya Meyer
Google | Nov 2, 2024 |

Tawnya chose Purelight Power two years ago to install a 24-panel system and to handle a new roof for her home. The crew made the whole process straightforward and kept her informed throughout. In less than three months she watched the meter run backwards as summer production surged; that excess energy has been banked to cover winter shortfalls. Because of the stored summer surplus she no longer worries about running air conditioners or stringing up lots of holiday lights, and she could add a hot tub without affecting her power bill. The most memorable result for her: a fast-producing system that turned summer gains into months’ worth of reliable, worry-free power.

1. Robert Mosher
Google | Sep 7, 2024 |

Robert Mosher arranged for Purelight Power to install a solar array on his barn in Oregon in February 2022. He found the whole process straightforward, no-nonsense and pressure-free, and noticed the company has outlasted many competitors by focusing on doing business properly and looking after customers. He recently requested a phone call and finished a conversation with Connor, who made it clear Purelight had deliberately waited to offer battery storage until manufacturers provided warranties comparable to the company’s panel warranty. Now they present two battery options, and they’re prioritizing reaching out to existing customers with upgrade deals before pairing batteries with new installs. What stood out for him was that concrete follow-through — being contacted first about battery backup offers rather than being treated as an afterthought.

2. Jennifer McCoy
Google | Aug 15, 2024 |

Jennifer McCoy had solar panels installed a few years ago and has watched them perform reliably since. Last week she switched her Wi‑Fi router and the system’s monitoring went offline; before she even realized there was a problem, Nathaniel at Purelight Power called to offer help getting the connection restored. She singled out the customer service team for that proactive outreach and came away convinced the company is consistent and attentive. The detail that stuck with her: someone at the company flagged and reached out about the monitoring outage before she knew it existed.

Joe Henner had Purelight Solar on his roof since May 2023; he loved Josh Smith’s sales pitch and the actual panel and electrical install, but the company’s office coordination repeatedly failed. 1. Laura Linck
Google | May 2, 2025 |

Laura has had Purelight on her home for well over a year. When small questions or issues popped up, Purelight and other technicians came out to inspect them, and she found the company consistently followed up. The installation has held up with no leaks, and she experienced prompt, hands-on service paired with solid workmanship. She started out with doubts but discovered that Purelight stands behind its quality and service — her clearest takeaway is more than a year of trouble-free performance and dependable follow-up.

2. Kathy K.
Yelp | Nov 17, 2023 |

Kathy K. went back to the same company last month to add panels to her garage after having an initial system installed two years earlier. She found the whole process straightforward: communication stayed easy, customer support remained responsive, and crews showed up on time. The installers treated the property respectfully and left the work area clean at each visit. The memorable detail for her was the repeat business itself — the garage add-on was handled with the same punctual, tidy approach as the first installation.

3. Kathy K
BBB | Nov 17, 2023 |

Kathy K first brought the company in two years ago for a home solar array and this month she had them back to add a second set of panels on her garage. She watched the crew show up on time, walk her through the plan in plain language, and complete the job on the projected schedule. They left the worksite clean, followed up afterward, and stayed easy to reach when she needed them. The first system delivered strong results, and that performance is what prompted her to hire them again for the garage install — a clear sign she trusted their punctuality, communication, and workmanship.

Long-term Satisfaction

Long-term satisfaction for Purelight Power drops to 2.7 ★ compared to early reviews. This decline is worse than 75% of installers we looked at.

Long-term reviews carry the most weight in our methodology because they are most representative of what you should be paying for: a system that will perform for years.
