The Verdict

Solabrite delivers solid work, but not without occasional stumbles. We analyzed hundreds of reviews and found workmanship scores of 4.8, with 203 positive mentions and only 10 negatives. One homeowner watched an installer lean a ladder on his gutter without protection, leaving scratches and bends, then found fingerprints all over the reflective tubes because the protective film came off too early. Another discovered the crew never reinstalled the attic insulation they'd pushed aside, leaving thermal gaps visible on camera. These aren't project-ending mistakes, but they reveal inconsistent attention to detail. On the flip side, 163 reviewers praised project management, and Miguel's name appears in dozens of reviews for punctual, courteous installs. One customer called their solar tube "the best $780 we've spent," turning a dungy windowless bathroom into the brightest room in the house. If you're willing to verify the crew restores insulation and protects finishes, you'll likely get a professional install. If you need an installer who never requires that kind of oversight, keep looking.

If you're comfortable inspecting the work yourself and pointing out oversights, Solabrite will deliver a functional install at a fair price. But if you expect an installer to proactively protect your gutters and restore insulation without prompting, you may find yourself coaching the crew.

Reviews That Shaped Our Verdict

Anna H.
YelpJun 29, 2014

Anna H. remembers the $780 she spent five years ago as the best home-improvement buy she’s made — a compact solution for a windowless hallway bathroom that always felt dark and dingy. After researching options she chose Sola Brite; the crew installed the unit smoothly and without complications, and the little space ended up the brightest room in the house. She walked away very satisfied, noting the instant visual upgrade and the added resale appeal that a clean, naturally lit bathroom brings. Five years later, that transformation is still the detail she points to when people ask whether it was worth it.

Borg gave Solabrite five stars back in 2012, but when he re-engaged the company after it changed hands he found a very different experience — some clear improvements and some new problems. He found the new owner, Mufid, personable and willing to offer discounts, and the crew showed real attention to dust control: they draped every piece of furniture in large plastic sheets during the install, a noticeable upgrade from the old practice of only using a small drill-bit shield to catch sheetrock dust. On the downside, the new crew’s inexperience showed in several practical ways. They leaned an extension ladder directly on the gutter without any protector, placing the ladder’s full weight (and their own) on the gutter lip and leaving unsightly scratches and bent top edges. Installers also removed the protective film from the reflective solar tubes too early, handled the tubes without fresh gloves, and left fingerprints that visibly cut the light output; only after Borg complained did someone climb back up and clean them with glass cleaner. Roof insulation suffered as well: workers pushed aside or removed fiberglass insulation around the tubing and never reinstalled it, producing big

Walter W.
YelpJan 23, 2020

Walter W. arranged a Solatube install at his father's house with a 9:00 AM start because street cleaning usually comes through around 8:45. The crew texted asking to arrive early at 8:15; he reluctantly agreed and, while sweeping debris and moving his car, let them in, cleared a closet for attic access, and gave only a general idea of where the fixtures should go. He then rushed outside to finish the street cleaning. When he came back, the installers had already punctured the ceiling and measured for the roof hole before his father arrived to confirm placement. His father asked that the roof opening be as high as possible—up to the four-foot allowance each tube gets—yet by that point the crew had already cut the roof. The installers initially indicated the cut met the four-foot mark, then shifted to calling it six inches short and brushed off the difference. Walter asked if the interior light opening could be moved a few inches toward the center of the room; an installer replied with a flat "No" and gave no explanation. The pair worked nonstop and didn’t pause to revisit the request. After they finished, the installers measured the tubing and confirmed it was six inches shorter (

Chris C.
YelpOct 17, 2024

Chris C. lived with three large, heat-trapping plastic skylights that made his home stifling during heat waves. He replaced all three with Velux solar-operated skylights through Solabrite and discovered he can now vent the house in the evening and leave it open overnight to pull the heat out—enough cooling that he hasn’t needed to run the air conditioning. The new skylights also cut incoming heat significantly, operate quietly and reliably, and he added the mobile app for extra control (each unit also includes its own remote). What kept him coming back to Solabrite over the years was the personal service: Yasmeen handled quotes with quick, personable attention, and Miguel installed the units and walked him through troubleshooting. The detail that stuck with him is simple and practical—nighttime venting with the Velux solar skylights has eliminated his A/C use during heat spells.

Ali S.
YelpFeb 4, 2021

Ali S. has been a repeat customer for three years, returning to a locally owned company when their home needed skylight work. About a year ago they had the first skylight replaced and were so pleased with the result that, after the second skylight started leaking, they came back for a second replacement. They found the crew professional, the installer skilled, and the office staff responsive — all delivered with clear value for the money. The job went smoothly, without hassle or fuss, and the finished skylight stopped the leak exactly as promised. The detail that stood out most: dependable, no-nonsense follow-through from both the field team and the office, which turned a recurring problem into a watertight solution.
