The Verdict

Windmar is not worth the risk. One homeowner's system still doesn't work a year after installation, her bill went up instead of down, and when she asked for help the company routed her number straight to voicemail. Another waited seven months from approval to connection because Windmar showed up unannounced, cut power for hours while he was on vacation, then blamed Duke Energy for delays that turned out to be missing county inspections. We found 27 reviews describing non-working systems, unresponsive service teams, and bills that climbed after install. The pattern is consistent: friendly sales pitch, solid workmanship scores during install, then silence when something breaks. Sixteen reviewers specifically called out disappeared reps, missed callbacks, or being bounced between departments with no resolution. One customer has roof damage from a loose mounting bar and can't get anyone to schedule the repair, despite it being covered under warranty. If you want panels that actually lower your bill and a company that picks up the phone after the install is done, keep looking.

If you need help six months from now when an inverter glitches or your monitoring app stops updating, Windmar's track record says you'll be on hold. The install crew may show up on time, but the service team often won't show up at all.

3 Stories That Stood Out

EnergySage | Mar 24, 2022 |

David hired Windmar a couple of years ago to put solar panels on his home and expected the savings and resilience the sales rep, Jay, promised. Jay guaranteed substantial bill reductions, no extra payments to the utility, and backup power during outages — but the reality flipped. After the system went live he discovered his electric bill increased: he ended up paying a solar-related fee while still being billed by the power company, and the array provides no power when the grid goes down. When he pushed for answers, Jay vanished and later claimed he no longer worked for the company. Windmar, Enphase, and Sunoco traded blame and offered no fix, despite him sending copies of bills and complaints for more than a year. Windmar did deliver a replacement water heater that was supposed to help, but it still hasn’t been installed after more than a year. He isn’t against solar in general, but his experience with Windmar left him with higher costs, no outage backup, and months of unanswered grievances — plus an uninstalled appliance sitting on the property.

2. Mike McCarthy
Google | Dec 8, 2021 |

Mike McCarthy approved a residential solar install in May, but by December the system still hadn’t been tied in — and what stuck with him was crews showing up unannounced and cutting power while he was on vacation. He received a single text the morning of June 24 to say panels would be installed the next day, so he called and texted the number back, then spent three hours on the phone with the office before having to ring his original sales rep to get the schedule changed. He asked for a heads-up going forward and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. At the end of July he checked his security cameras and watched installers arrive without warning to mount batteries and electrical boxes. He phoned the office and was promised a callback, and about 30 minutes later the house lost power around 9:15 a.m. The outage lasted roughly two and a half hours; at noon he had to call a neighbor to physically go to the house to get power restored because no one from the company answered. When he finally heard back, staff told him he didn’t need to be there and offered a brief apology for the lack of notice. Later that afternoon the power dipped again for about an hour, and after multiple calls he,–

3. Darren Wittmann
Google | Apr 28, 2025 |

Darren bought Windmar solar panels for his home about a year ago and discovered a mounting bar had come loose — a piece he worries will cause more roof damage if it fully detaches. He contacted Windmar repeatedly to request the repair covered by their limited warranty, specifically paragraph 2a.(iii), the "System Repair Promise," but the company refused to send anyone out. The same woman answered many of his calls, repeatedly claiming the person in charge was out of the office and would call back; when he pushed back she hung up. One different employee reached out once and then stopped responding, and now his calls go straight to voicemail. Frustrated, he’s preparing to escalate the issue legally. The image that sticks: a loose mounting bar over his roof and a company he considers unresponsive and unwilling to honor its repair promise.

What You Can Expect

1. John Karad
Google | Dec 2, 2025 |

John Karad arrived at Windmar after a long struggle with an older solar system that never worked or delivered what it had been sold to do. He approached the company skeptical when they promised to both repair the old installation and add the functionality originally promised, but Erek changed that skepticism into confidence by managing the project from start to finish—coordinating the work, integrating components, and patiently walking him through the system and process. The crews showed up on time, worked professionally, and the office scheduling and communications ran smoothly so nothing fell through the cracks. Carlos, the on-site supervisor, attended every visit, checked that the installation met both technical and aesthetic expectations, and spent time explaining the hardware and the system apps—often arriving early and staying late despite living three hours away. After dealing with competitors who overpromised, underdelivered, and repeatedly pestered him, he watched Windmar restore his faith in the solar industry by delivering a working system and a support team that actually followed through; the image that stayed with him was a supervisor who drove three hours and stayed—t

2. Paul Maldonado
Google | Nov 21, 2025 |

Paul Maldonado hired Windmar Solar to outfit his home with roof solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall. Team 4 showed up both days at 8:00 and were actively working by 8:30, moving through the two-day installation with steady, professional pace. The crew walked him through the Powerwall app and the overall process in detail so he felt comfortable operating the system right away. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of the job and left the property “like nothing ever happened.” He ended up with a fully installed solar-plus-storage setup and remembers the punctual starts, the clear app walkthrough, and the spotless cleanup as the moments that made the project low‑disruption and easy to manage.

1. Edwin Quinones
Google | Dec 4, 2025 |

2. Raul Alvarez
Google | Dec 3, 2025 |

Raul walked away very satisfied with the service and support he received from the Windmar team while they handled his solar solution. He credited the smooth experience to the supervision of Carlos Acevedo, praising Carlos as an excellent professional and technician. He recommends Windmar for solar solutions, and the detail that lingered was Carlos’s clear technical leadership throughout the job.

3. Jorge Cortes Esparza
Google | Jan 9, 2025 |

Jorge Cortes Esparza had a residential solar system installed and ran into trouble starting January 1, 2022. He spent the next two years dealing with recurring roof leaks that followed the work, and the company repeatedly covered up water stains with poor ceiling paint instead of repairing the underlying roofing damage. He ended up with multiple active leaks, a roof that felt mishandled by installers who lacked roofing expertise, and no real energy benefits to show for the time and trouble. On top of the damage, the company threatened to place a lien on his house. After two years of ongoing problems he is still waiting for a replacement part that has been delayed for about two months, and he worries the next rainy season will expose more damage. The clearest takeaway: months and even years of leaks and delays, plus a lien threat, left him without the promised benefits and anxious about future storms.

1. Mario Ramírez
Google | Dec 18, 2024 |

Mario chose Windmar to install a Tesla battery ecosystem at his home and found a serious, reliable company staffed with professionals across engineering, technology, and installation. He appreciated the technical and engineering support that gave his family real peace of mind. The installation proceeded smoothly, and he relied on Mr. Daniel Yu and Mrs. Luna as dependable contacts throughout the project. He also noticed a positive work environment among the crew, which showed up as careful, organized work on the system. The detail that stuck with him was having those direct, trustworthy people — Daniel and Luna — to call on during the Tesla battery installation.

2. Luis Velez
Google | Sep 20, 2024 |

Luis Velez hired Grupo 3 to put solar panels on his house. He watched the crew work methodically and ended up very satisfied with the finished system. The installers left the property spotless and well organized, and they kept him informed at every step of the process. He appreciated their hard work — what lingered after the job was the tidy site and the steady communication throughout the project.

3. Mindy Parrish
Google | Nov 30, 2023 |

Mindy Parrish signed up for a solar-plus-battery setup for her home and ended up with a year of ongoing problems. The installation dragged on, the system never worked properly, and a year after it went up she is paying higher electric bills than before. She had been promised that the battery backup would drive her bill down — eventually to nothing — but instead her bills increased. After months of troubleshooting and frustration, she has been pushing the company to remove the panels because she no longer wants the ongoing headache. Requests to speak with a supervisor produced promises of a callback within 48 hours that never happened, leaving her with unresolved removal requests and higher costs.

Long-term Satisfaction

Long-term satisfaction for Windmar Home drops to 1.0 ★ compared to early reviews. This decline is worse than 75% of installers we looked at.

Long-term reviews carry the most weight in our methodology because they are most representative of what you should be paying for: a system that will perform for years.
